Eriel's Backstory
Chapter I
It was an ordinary rainy night at Dromund Kaas. In their small house, the Fash couple were waiting. “Hold my hand” Feremia said to Ktinlo and smiled. A protocol droid entered the room. It wasn’t in the best condition. Rusty and old fabricated probably found in a junkyard, it beeped twice. After a while another figure entered the room. This time a man in white robes; Dr. Bahto. “Let’s finish this quickly…” he said to the droid and injected a narcotic to Feremia who would soon fall asleep. Not much time had passed and the operation was finished. A healthy little girl now in the arms of Ktinlo. The doctor closed up Feremia and looked at her husband “You have two weeks, do as we agreed.” With haste he left the house, without waiting for the new mother to wake up, with the droid following behind.
Ktinlo looked at the newborn’s eyes and smiled in relief and happiness. A tear would slip from his eyes. Feremia, now awake, looked at her husband. “Are you crying?” she said in a calm but exhausted tone. “No, heh, no…” he replied and smirked while looking at the child and back at Feremia. “Our daughter” he said while he handed gently the baby to its mother. She would take the little one and say to Ktinlo in a happier tone “She has your eyes eh?” and he nodded back. Then the two would look at each other and remain silent for a brief moment. “I love you” he said followed by a smile like that of a teenager after his first kiss. “I love you too” she replied with her eyes reflecting her happiness.
Not the Fash couple anymore but a family now, needed twenty thousand credits for the doctor’s service. Their salaries combined were but five thousand, six hundred and thirty six credits annually. Ktinlo remembered of the deadline they had. He was only hoping for a miracle. He didn’t say anything to ruin the sweet moment they were having but… the baby did so by crying for the first time. At that moment there was a blackout at their house and the rain had stopped. There was no light but a small torch lighting the hallway. Feremia immediately began breastfeeding the newborn. The moment the baby stopped crying, the lights went back up. Was it a coincidence? Nobody would know…
The parents looked at one another and the man said “How shall we call her?” Feremia pondered and looked at the door leading to the hallway. “Emberala?” she said and looked at her husband. “Always burning eh?” He smiled and continued “That’s… that’s the perfect name!” He added and then kissed his wife. Emberala would finish her first meal soon after and close her eyes. Feremia would look and caress her while saying in an emotional but tired tone “Welcome to the Galaxy little Emberala” as she would soon join her sleeping. That’s when Ktinlo left the room frustrated… There was no hope for them to find the money or… was there…?
